Privacy and safety

Trust is the whole product.

A notice is only worth reading if it really came from your Sangam. A directory is only worth joining if strangers can't harvest it. Here is how Vysya Setu protects both.

Verified Sangams

Anyone can set up a Sangam, but only verified ones carry the badge. We check that the Sangam exists and that the person asking represents it. Directories and other spaces that connect members across Sangams are open only to confirmed members of verified Sangams.

Membership works the same way. An invitation link only lets someone ask to join. The Sangam confirms each member, so a membership card means the Sangam vouches for that person.

You choose who sees your details

Two settings decide what other members see. Your Profile card (your name, photo, city, native place, profession, and gotram) can stay with you, go to the members of your Sangams, or be found by confirmed members across the Network. Your phone, WhatsApp, and email go only to your Connections unless you choose your Sangams, and never to the Network. You can also hide your native place or gotram.

To get in touch, a member sends a contact request. You accept or decline, and you choose which contact details to share. There is no chat inside the app, so nobody can message you without that step. If you block someone, they can't find you or send you requests.

Directories that can't be scraped

The network directory is search-only and opt-in. Nobody can scroll through every member. Each person gets a fixed number of searches a day, and results stop after a few pages, so a member list can't be copied out of Vysya Setu.

A Sangam's own member directory is visible only to its members, and the Sangam can switch it off.

Who sees what

Other members
Only the profile details you made visible to them, at the level you chose. Which Sangams you belong to is not public unless you make it so.
Your Sangam's office-bearers
What their role needs for that Sangam: your membership, your RSVPs, and check-ins. Never your records in another Sangam.
Other Sangams
Nothing about your membership elsewhere. Each Sangam's records are kept apart.
Vysya Setu staff
Only for support, safety, or a legal duty. Access is limited in time, read-only by default, and recorded.
Advertisers and data brokers
Nothing. There is no advertising, and we never sell personal data.
